Handmade Festive 2026: Gifts by Scotland’s Artists & Makers
Macrobert requires applicants to:
- Agree for Macrobert to retain 30% commission on the gross sale price of their items.
- Authorise Macrobert to display, promote and sell their items on their behalf and collect payment for said items through Macrobert payment systems.
- Provide a pre-agreed range of items to be held and managed by Macrobert, usually a product range of up to 15 items, on a sale or return basis.
- Complete & submit an itemised stock list using the template Excel document that will be provided, prior to delivering said items.
- Deliver items individually coded and priced in such a way that the price is visible to potential buyers when the items are displayed.
o For the code: use your artist/business initials and add an item number e.g. AA01.
o For duplicates & similar items with the same price eg. A range of cards with different designs priced the same, or a range of different earrings with the same price: AA01 1/05, AA01 2/05.
- Arrange delivery / drop-off of said items to Macrobert on a pre-arranged date between Wed 11 Nov and Sun 15 Nov 2026. - Collect unsold items from Macrobert on a pre-arranged date from Mon 11 Jan 2027.
- Arrange to replenish / refresh stock as / if required by prior agreement with Handmade contacts at Macrobert. Macrobert will not accept responsibility for items left without prior arrangement and reserve the right to return these to the Artist / Maker.
- Work with the Macrobert team to set the pricing of items, bearing in mind the 30% commission rate on gross sales as retained by Macrobert. From experience we suggest a ceiling of £150/item.
- Provide up to 5 high- and low-resolution images for use on the Macrobert website and social media posts.
- Give permission for items to be photographed by Macrobert for promotional purposes, along with images supplied by the Artist / Maker.
- Where possible, support the promotion of Handmade by tagging and engaging with Macrobert on social media and sharing with your networks.
- Consider the health and safety of visitors to the venue, including children, who may handle items provided for display.
- Hold appropriate copyright permissions for items provided for sale. Macrobert accept no liability for this.
- Be solely responsible for: determining their VAT registration status, accounting for and paying any VAT due on the sale of their products and complying with all relevant tax legislation. The Artist / Maker shall indemnify Macrobert against any VAT, interest, penalties or costs arising as a result of incorrect or incomplete VAT declarations made by the Artist/Maker or a failure by the Artist/Maker to meet their VAT obligations.
- Provide data via an anonymised survey to be used in the Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion Statistical Analysis reporting by Macrobert to core funders, Creative Scotland.
- Consider the Environmental impact of their work and take action, where feasible, to reduce their carbon footprint.
- Submit an application
- At point of application, send up to 5 images of products intended for inclusion for consideration to events@macrobertartscentre.org
Macrobert commits to:
- Acting as the vendor for sales – until such a time as a sale is made, any / all items as provided by the Artist / Maker will be considered their property.
- Taking reasonable steps to ensure the safety and security of all items provided for sale. Whilst such efforts will be made, Macrobert will not accept liability for damage to or loss of stock.
- Carrying out marketing and promotional activity to support and build on the success of the exhibition, including but not limited to a range of digital communications and inclusion in press activity where appropriate. Macrobert will use the information, images and links to websites/social media provided by Artists / Makers for such purposes.
- Taking responsibility for installing and displaying items. The allocation of space and placement of items are at the discretion of Macrobert. Moving and rotating items at their discretion. Whilst efforts will be made to display a selection of all items provided, some items may be retained to replenish stock.
- Holding all details pertaining to the Artist / Maker securely, in line with data retention policies.
- Providing itemised sales reports at regular intervals (once for Handmade Festive, at the end of the run) and thereafter making payment of the amount due to the Artist / Maker to the account details provided at contracting.
Please note:
- Macrobert reserves the right to refuse to display products that are not coded & priced when delivered and/or accompanied with an itemised stock list as detailed above.
- The Handmade Festive exhibition does not have a dedicated staff member in the space at all times. We ask that you consider the health and safety implications of your stock potentially being handled by members of the public, particularly young children. A limited number of display cases are available - these will be allocated at the discretion of Macrobert staff.
- Macrobert Arts Centre takes responsibility for installing and displaying all items. In addition to Arthouse there are display spaces throughout the public spaces. Allocation of space and placement of artwork in display stands are at the discretion of Macrobert staff.
- Artwork does not need to have a seasonal or Christmas theme.
